Sales Prospecting Tips and Techniques Part 1 & 2

To create your initial offer, or create any sales strategy, A lot of people drill into their media to find a demographic, age group, similar tastes products that their customer might like. When you are determined to make sales, whether you are online, direct selling, retail, over the phone or any other method, you need to understand your customer.

It is the number one rule in selling. I say number one rule a lot, because the rules of selling are broad and all of them need to be executed.

When you go to buy something what is your big driver. What motivates you to go and get that item, boat, car, sunglasses, tv’ vacations. What is your big driver? Either you are buying something for a fix it issue, or you are buying something that drives you to where you want to be. You do not buy a $400,000 home, unless you want to elevate your status and be comfortable. This is where you envision yourself, where you want to be. Your customers do the same thing, whether they are buying a watch or buying a paint job.

Your age group can help define some of your demographic tendencies, if you are middle aged, versus young. You will have a different outlook, and want different things. Every demographic will have different goals. If you are middle aged or 50+ you care about your family, your buying decisions will have that direction. Versus a young person buying laptop stickers with Katie Perry on them.

What kinds of goals do your customers have. What do they want to learn? What kind of motivation and eagerness do they have. What are your customers anecdotes. What kinds of choices have they already made, where are there opportunities? How to promote your kindle novel

1. Build up anticipation for your ebook release on all your social networking platforms. You can even host a virtual book launch where you can offer potential buyers a discount for attending and “bringing” a friend. Don’t forget to remind your buyers to leave you a review. Reviews are an excellent source of valuable, free marketing.

2. If you’ve created an entire website for your ebook, make sure that the URL or domain name incorporates keywords, vs the actual name of the book. For potential buyers who don’t know about you or your publication, keep in mind that they will search for keywords that are relevant to your publication, as opposed to the actual ebook title.
3. Amazon Kindle is a great way to push your publication and to drive traffic to your book’s listing. This one is a little more complicated but still, pretty easy to accomplish. Digital Marketer has done an excellent job of explaining how it’s done here…so why should we gild the lily?
4. As an addendum to the first point, utilize free tubes like YouTube and Vimeo. Get yourself interviewed by a PR authority in your field, have the interview recorded, edit it accordingly and throw it up on either of those sites. This will give you a chance to visually and vividly share why your ebook should be purchased.

These tips have worked for us and we’re pretty sure they will work for you. An ebook is an excellent opportunity to create a source of income for yourself or your company, so invest some time into planning and give it a shot!

The ebook may not ever completely replace good ole’ paper-and-print books, but the invention is certainly taking the world by storm. Even before the dawn of ebook readers, once ebooks started hitting the internet, they were scooped up (or downloaded, rather) with great global zeal. Why? Because they are convenient. The average person nowadays spends a significant amount of their life, both personally and professionally, on the internet. Besides looking at videos and listening to music (and playing those addictive games on Facebook), we spend most of our time online reading. While some people create them for fun, for the most part, authors craft ebooks as a means to sell their ideas, experiences and expertise for profit. They are a great supplemental tool for any business and can drive a lot of business to your company’s doors – be those doors brick and mortar or virtual. One significant obstacle that most ebook authors encounter however, is finding the best strategy to employ to get their virtual publications noticed, sought-after and purchased. Do what you love and the money will come

Making Money Doing What You Love

In our commercial society, it’s the money in the bank, not the satisfaction in the soul, that counts. So, doing what you love isn’t always easy and it doesn’t always pay well.

And yet, we all want to do what we love and we would very much like to make money doing it. So how do you go about achieving both?

Interestingly enough, it is now more possible than ever to do what you love. The Internet has leveled the playing field. It has opened the doors to action. There is no one standing between you and the Internet. There are no publishers who can reject the book that you put so much work into. There are no record industry types to tell you that you have no talent. And there are no galleries that refuse to sell your artwork.

On the other hand, just putting something up on the Internet doesn’t mean that you will make a gazillion dollars. And it doesn’t even guarantee that anyone will like what you do. Also, there’s the problem of bastardizing your talents. Are you willing to write junk, if that’s what sells? Do you want to apply your graphic arts talent prettying up web pages that sell get rich quick schemes and bogus weight loss products?

Before you jump on the Internet to “do what you love to do” it’s important to decide if you really want to use your talents to make money, or just to express yourself. Is it totally for your enjoyment, or do you want cash in hand.

The key to doing what you love, and making money at it, lies in finding balance. That’s not easy at the start. No one knows who you are when you’re only starting out. I once had a friend who had written a short story and submitted it to a prestigious magazine. He thought big. Surprisingly, the editor offered to publish the story if my friend would make a few changes to better fit the theme of the magazine. Bear in mind, my friend had never had a story published before in his life. Did my friend make the changes? No. Instead, he wrote the editor a scathing letter about “artistic integrity” and how he would never compromise one word that he wrote. Did my friend go on to become a famous author? No. Instead, he became a nurse, a worthwhile job but one I’m sure he hated, and died at the young age of forty-three. Did he die of a broken heart? Maybe.

Remember that you are not in a power position when you are just beginning. You need to get past the point of getting started and climb up to a position of power. So, how do you get there? The key is to over deliver. Don’t just give people what they want, give them better than what they want. Build a reputation for excellence. The faster that you build that reputation, the quicker you will reach the point where you can create what you want to create and people will still line up to buy it.

Does this mean that you will have to bastardize your talents now and then? Unfortunately, yes it does. Just don’t make a habit of it. Strike a balance by being continuously on the lookout for ways to use you talents better and in ways that satisfy you. When you find, or create, one of those ways, do it! Even if you don’t make money every time.

Of course, you can forget about the money and just follow your heart. All you need is a steady job that pays the bills and some free time. You can go either way, it’s up to you.

Things to remember when You are competitve on link placement.  First, you can always hire someone else to do it for you, its called seo.  Second is that your relevant links are going to help you more than your irrelevant links.  Third is that your competition is running their ads and links in tandem!  Where they link, they put an ad.  Its one of the big guy strategies.

You’re in a major competition gathering more VOTES  than your BIG COMPETITORS — Other Authors! Other Experts! Other Competitive thoughts! When you yourself have a backlink, people like your content. If you have a lot of backlinks Google LOVES YOU!

Google judges the authority of the quantity of backlinks. The stark reality is Backlinks take some time. I am going to explain to you how I’ve done both theories and been successful at making very good results.

Which on works the best? They both are accepted. What the links say and who (what authority) the site has, really points to you are either going to sink your ship.  Authority backlinks to your website are the utmost effective.

How to Buy a Business

It goes without saying that buying a business can be one of the biggest moves that you ever make. You do need then, to perform due diligence and to make sure that everything is as good and as dependable as you believe.

Your lawyer and your accountant will usually work alongside of you in trying to uncover anything unpleasant about the deal you are tempted by ñ details such as pending lawsuits that the seller may try to hide, can be common. You don’t get the chance to perform due diligence at any other stage. Once you get past this, you will actually have sunk money into the venture. This is your chance. Let’s take a look at the main areas that you need to pay attention to. These are areas that people often neglect.

When you’re buying a business, the seller’s financials will usually give you your best clues to anything that may be amiss. When a seller plans to prepare his business to sell, he will often try to make it look more profitable than it is, shortly before settling. To do this, he’ll try to cut back on those business expenses are shift expenses around just to make things look like they’re more profitable than they are. If profitability seems to have dramatically risen shortly before the sale, that’s a red flag right there.

Businesses usually have leases on the properties they occupy. These can be very valuable. Buyers will often overlook how valuable these leases are. Sometimes though, buyers will spend too much time studying the leases to make sure that they are good value, that they’ll just let the deal fall through. You can also have problems with leases when the landlord is not happy with your credit rating. Sometimes, he will just refuse to accept a new tenant at all.

It’s always a good idea to check the leases out quickly before buying a business.

A business is only as good as its loyal customer base. While you might find everything acceptable to do with the leases and financials, the value of a business often depends quite entirely on how much its customer base can be depended upon. It can be a good idea to investigate the customer base. You could look at the accounts receivables to see if credit extended seems to get paid back on a regular basis.

Finally, it could be a good idea to take a close look at the kind of employee stability the business can count on. To someone buying a business that’s been running for some time, it can be very important that they be able to depend on the employees to help them catch up. If the old employees seem attached to the old business owner and plan to leave the company with him, it can spell trouble. You need to secure some kind of guarantee that the old employees will stay on.

3 Tips for Successful Sales and Marketing

Life = Networking

I know entrepreneurs who go to networking opportunities like it’s this unique thing that they have to do to grow their business. I want to yell at them. Wake up, people! LIFE is a networking opportunity. And I don’t mean go around hitting your friends up to sell your product or whatever. That’s just cheesy.

But here’s the thing — have you ever noticed that everywhere you go, that’s where you are? And other people are there too, right. So I’m walking around and I have what I want, what I need to get that, and what I got right now. And everyone else is walking around like that too. Only you might have what they need. So the natural thing to do is just talk to each other and find out what’s going on. And then may I help you or you help me or both.

I don’t care whether it’s on Facebook, or twitter, in the grocery store or on the corner of 12th and Main. That’s life. And the more you share and get interested in what others have to share the more successful you are at life. Because you’re connected and life doesn’t work really well alone.

I’m not saying make best friends with everyone you meet. That would be stupid. And a little weird. But if you haven’t noticed, the commercial landscape is getting much more transparent, much more customer driven. People share information with each other and they know what they want. You gotta be out there in it. Have conversations. Contribute to people. Spread the love. Get on Facebook. Join the world where it is now. Of course, go to your networking meetings or whatever, but don’t forget about the rest of the time you’re walking around out there–the world actually is full of people. It might not hurt to talk to them.

SEO in 2012

I’ve been talking about SEO for a few years now. My good friend Ryan used to beg me to stop talking about it. That’s because a few years back, chasing SEO was like chasing a rabbit. Every time you worked it out to build SEO, the algorithms would change. But things are different now. Google’s approach is stabilizing and the way SEO works now–I don’t think we’re going to see any major changes for a while.

For those of you who don’t already get this, and you really want to get this….

Pay Per Click is old news. Google adwords get only about 5% of the clicks. People get tired of seeing ads. It’s called ad fatigue. On the other hand, the first organic listing on Google (those are the ones on the left side–the ones that are ranked by SEO) get over 40% of the clicks. That’s amazing. So basically, where you want to be is the top of the list on the left side of google.

So how do you build SEO? One way is through links. Google likes a 70/30 ratio of anchor links to naked links. Anchor links are the links where you use a keyword and that key word is linked to a site. You don’t see the url you just see the word in blue.  Naked links are links where you see the entire url–you know, with the http://www.blahblah.com. Naked links tell google you aren’t just working the system because they tend to be created naturally.

When you are building your external links (links that connect to other people’s pages), connect to a site that has clout and authority. Google sees certain sites as stable and providing reliable information and has built its algorithms to support spreading  information that is predicatably acurate and realible. So sites like NASA, Coca Cola or the Humane Society (branded and/or known as an authority in a subject matter), linking to that authority increases your apparent authority. Imagine it like a term paper. If you site crap, no one believes you. If you site reputable sources, you have a better chance of making your case.

Are You Using Social Media Yet?

I can’t believe there’s still so many business owners out there that refuse to use
social media. They say things like, “I don’t twitter.” Well, first of all, you don’t
twitter on twitter, you tweet on twitter. Anyway, some of the most stubborn a-holes
are starting to come around, and then, you know what they ask me? They say,
Perry, how do you make money on social media? My answer? You don’t.

Being in social media is like going to a bunch of parties. You’d have to be a pretty
big jerk to just walk around selling stuff at a party. People would stop inviting that
guy. It’s the same in social media.

So let’s take twitter, for example. Twitter is like a cocktail party. People talk about
topics that interest them. Mostly they make small talk. Occasionally they get out
their wallets and show pictures of their kids. But mostly the conversation is
topical and fun. Twitter is a place where you can be known for what interests you.
Facebook is more like a potluck. People get really personal on facebook. They
talk about anything from who died to what they ate for dinner. Pinterest–well I’m
not sure what the hell kind of party Pinterest is exactly–let’s call it a scrapbooking
convention meets neighborhood bar meets well, a really funky art festival.

Anyway, the thing you want to know about all these sites is, the friends you make there
could be tomorrow’s customer, advocate or promoter. But just like at any party, if you go
in there just to schmooze and work people, you’ll piss them off real quick. Let go, enjoy
yourself. Be interesting and be interested. Share yourself and what interests you. And
spread the love. Help people out by sharing information or connecting people. People
want that guy at their parties, right?

And then, occasionally, you invite them over to your blog where they can find out more
about what you offer. If what you’re about is not for them, but they like you, you can bet
they’ll remember you when their friend needs what you’re selling. Only the thing to
remember is, the people you meet on social sites may be connected to 1,000, 10,000 or
even 50,000 people. So is it worth your time? Definitely.
