How to Structure Your Site for SEO
Site structure is one of the most overlooked elements of search engine optimization. I want to read to you one of the most powerful sentences in search engine optimization. It is Google‘s Mission Statement: To organize the world‘s information.
Google‘s entire mission is to organize the world‘s information. If you will help them organize the world‘s information by making your site orderly and well-organized in a way that they can understand it, they will reward you. If you organize your Web site in a way that they do not agree with, they will penalize you. If you do not organize your Web site at all, they will really penalize you.
In the case of most Web sites, people do not think about the structure or the organization of the site, the architecture of the Web site, until after they have started building it and perhaps it is live, active, and has been around for a while. I want to talk to you about this.
The reason Google wants information organized is because it is easier for them to make a determination of the entire intent of a site. If everything in a site is organized in a pyramid fashion, Google is able to sort of filter up through the levels and determine what the site is really about at its core level. If everything is scattered around, there is no theme to it and it is difficult to do this.
